When will Cataclysm be released?

Will Cataclysm be available for pre-download, like StarCraft II?


Yes. You will be able to download the Cataclysm installer a few days before December 7, so you can install the game and be ready for the launch at midnight Pacific time. As soon as the servers come up, you'll have a chance to be there!

What is the story of Cataclysm?


While the attention of the Horde and Alliance remained fixed upon Northrend, an ancient evil has been lying dormant within Deepholm, the domain of earth in the Elemental Plane. Hidden away in a secluded sanctuary, the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing has waited, recovering from the wounds of his last battle against Azeroth, nursing his hatred for the inferior creatures that infest the surface realm..and biding his time until he can reforge the world in molten fire.
Soon, Deathwing the Destroyer will return to Azeroth, and his eruption from Deepholm will sunder the world, leaving a festering wound across the continents. As the Horde and Alliance race to the epicenter of the cataclysm, the kingdoms of Azeroth will witness seismic shifts in power, the kindling of a war of the elements, and the emergence of unlikely heroes who will rise up to protect their scarred and broken world from utter devastation.
The face of Azeroth is altered forever as the destruction left in Deathwing's wake reshapes the land and reveals secrets long sealed away. Players will be able to re-experience familiar zones across Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, rewrought by the cataclysm and filled with new opportunities for adventure.

Who must purchase the expansion? What if I don't buy it?


The world of Warcraft is changing whether you purchase the expansion or not!
In order to experience the newly added content, such as the new leveling zones and new dungeons, you must purchase the expansion. You will also not be able to progress past level 80 without purchasing the expansion. However, the changes that have been made to the rest of the world will affect all players, even those without the expansion. For example, there will be no 'old Northern Barrens' for players who have not purchased the expansion - only the post-Cataclysm Barrens.

What is the new level cap?


The maximum player level cap has been raised to 85.

What does this raised level cap mean to me?


Players leveling beyond 80 will see their spells level up appropriately, and will be able to learn new spells. Unlike previous expansions, talent trees will not be expanded - instead they are being drastically reduced for all players, with a maximum of 41 talent points at level 85. Talent points are awarded every odd level after level 10 (which will grant 1 point), and will then be awarded every level from 81-85. Will leveling from 80-85 be like leveling from 70-80?

It's too early to say. We base our leveling more around how much quest content we have and how good the reward pacing feels. If we have as many quests as we did from 70-80 and if it feels like your character is getting a reasonable amount of new stuff for the time invested, then it could end up being similar.

What about leveling a new character? How will it differ?

Many existing zones have had their level ranges changed drastically, but the same continental leveling path will still be followed. You will start out in Azeroth (Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms) until around 58, continue in Outland from 58 to around 68, head to Northrend for 68 to 80, and finally finish off your last 7 levels capping out at 85 in the new, higher leveled zones of Azeroth (including some not found on the continents)!

Will there be a new level of riding skills?


Yes. Master Riding will allow players to increase the flying speed of all of their flying mounts to 310%, and all ground mounts to 100%! No more having to forsake your favorite mount only because it is slower than the Proto-drake/Frostwyrm you got from Naxxramas, Ulduar, or Icecrown Citadel. It costs and is subject to reputation discount with Orgrimmar / Stormwind. However, if you already own a 310% mount, you get this skill for free!
If you wish to use your flying mount in Azeroth, you will have to purchase a Flight Master's License for from a riding trainer. You do not need Master Riding in order to fly in Azeroth.

Even though a physical keyboard may not always be available on iPad, iPad users appreciate using keyboard shortcuts to streamline their interaction with your app. On the Mac, users always expect apps to offer keyboard shortcuts. By supporting keyboard shortcuts in your iOS app, you make it easy to add support for common macOS shortcuts to your Mac app.

Multitasking. Apps that do a good job scaling the interface to support Split View, Slide Over, and Picture in Picture lay the necessary groundwork to support the extensive window resizability that Mac users expect.
